Description of key information

The acute toxicity to fish of the test item was assessed following OECD 203 under static conditions. Following a range-finding study, a limit test was performed with a WAF of the test item at 100 mg solid matter/L. No mortality or clinical effects were observed in both the control and the WAF during the test period. The 96h-LL50 for carp exposed to the test item was >100 mg solid matter/L. The analytically confirmed concentration of dioctyl phosphate in the test solution was 22 mg/L.

 

The acute toxicity to Daphnia of the test item was assessed following OECD 202 under static conditions. Following a range-finding study, a limit test was performed with a WAF of the test item at 100 mg solid matter/L. No mortality or clinical effects were observed in both the control and the WAF during the test period. The 48h-LL50 for Daphnia magna exposed to the test item was >100 mg solid matter/L. The analytically confirmed concentration of dioctyl phosphate in the test solution was 16 mg/L.

 

The toxicity to algae of the test item was assessed following OECD 201. During a combined range-finding/limit test study, a study was performed with a maximum WAF of the test item at 100 mg solid matter/L. Microscopic observations at the end of the test revealed a normal and healthy appearance of the algal cells exposed to the WAF at 100 mg solid matter/L when compared to the control.  The 72h-EL50 for inhibition of both growth rate (ErL50) and yield (EyL50) was >100 mg solid matter/L. The 72h-NOELR for growth rate inhibition was <100 mg solid matter/L when based on statistical analysis and 100 mg solid matter/L when based on biological relevance. The 72h-NOELR for yield inhibition was <100 mg solid matter/L when based on both statistical analysis and biological relevance. The analytically confirmed average concentration of dioctyl phosphate in the test solution was 54 mg/L.

 

The toxicity to microorganisms of the test item was assessed following OECD 209. During a combined range-finding/limit test study with un-adapted domestic sewage sludge, a study was performed with a maximum of 1000 mg solid matter/L. Under the conditions of the present test the test item was not toxic to waste water bacteria (activated sludge) at or below a concentration of 100 mg solid matter/L (NOEC). The EC50 was above 1000 mg solid matter/L.
