PBT assessment: overall result

PBT status:
the substance is not PBT / vPvB
Justification:

The PBT Assessment is based on the criteria set out in the “Guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment, Chapter R.11: PBT Assessment” (ECHA, 2017c).

Persistence (P) Assessment

Octyl laurate (CAS 5303-24-2) is readily biodegradable and thus not persistent in the environment. Thus, the criteria for Persistent (P) or very Persistent (vP) are not met.

Bioaccumulation (B) Assessment

In accordance with ECHA Guidance R.11 a B-assessment is only necessary in case a substance fulfils the P and/or vP criteria. Since this is not the case for octyl laurate a B-assessment is not considered to be necessary.

Toxicity (T) Assessment

The target substance is not classified as H350, H340, H372, H373, H350i, H360 and/or H361. Moreover, no acute toxicity was recorded in all available studies and the P/vP criteria are not met. Thus, no further T-assessment is considered to be necessary in accordance with the ECHA Guidance.

In conclusion octyl laurate is not considered to be a PBT/vPvB substance.
