Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Short-Term Toxicity to Fish:

Exposure of rainbow trout, Oncorhynchus mykiss, to test substance resulted in a 96 hour median lethal concentration (LC50) of 430 mg/L (95% confidence interval = 360 to 600 mg/L), expressed as the nominal amount of test substance used to prepare the WAF. The 96 hour no observed effect concentration (NOEC) is 130 mg/L of the test substance. Structurally similar substances from a category of aliphatic esters submitted under the High Production Volume (HPV) Chemical Challenge Program (ACC, 2003).were uniformly of low acute aquatic toxicity to fish at or above the nominal water solubility limits.

Short-Term Toxicity to Aquatic Invertebrates:

The 24 hour median effective concentration (EC50) of the test substance to daphnids was 550 mg/L (expressed as the nominal amount of test substance used to prepare the WAF) and the 48 hour EC50 was 440 mg/L (95% confidence interval of 360 to 600) The 48 hour no observed effect concentration is (NOEC) is 360 mg/L.

Toxicity to Aquatic Algae

For hazard assessment purposes, the toxicity of heptanoic acid, ester with 2,2,4 -trimethyl-1,3 -pentanediol (CAS 71839 -38 -8) was chosen as the most reliable estimate of the value for the algal toxicity of the test substance. It had a reported 72-hr EC50 >2000 mg/L (WAF, nominal loading rate) and a NOEC of 2000 mg/L based on both area under the growth curves and specific growth rates. The latter study was conducted following GLP and according to OECD 201.

Toxicity to Microorganisms:

Based on a limited water solubility and estimated rapid biodegradation, the test substance is expected to have little or no toxicity toward activated sludge microorganisms.
