Purity: O,O-tert-butyl isopropyl monoperoxycarbonate 74.6% Isododecane: mixture of isomers 24.5%
Batch number: 1203442069
Storage temperature: Avoid temperatures below -20 °C. For maximum quality store below: 25 °C.
Expiration date: April 1, 2022
Key result
Melting / freezing pt.:
-2 °C

Test method 1: Thermal analysis method:

The DSC curve showed that an endothermic peak was obtained.

This is the melting traject of O,O-tert-butyl isopropyl-monoperoxycarbonate, 75% in isododecane.

The endpoint of the melting traject is -1.6°C, rounded -2°C. At this temperature all the crystals are dissolved.

Test method 2: The glass tube method

First the reaction mixture, seeded with glass splinters was cooled to -25°C, to crystallize the reaction mixture. No spontaneous crystallization occurred; therefore the mixture was cooled to -78°C. The reaction mixture was heated stepwise. The temperature steps and appearance of the sample at each sample temperature is mentioned below.

· 12 days at -25°C: no spontaneous crystallization

· Cooled down to -78°C with dry ice/acetone: totally solidified

· 1 day at -25°C : most solids (80%), some liquid inside

· 1 day at -21°C : most solids (80%), some liquid inside

· 1 day at -20°C : most solids (80%), some liquid inside

· ½ day at -19°C : most solids (80%), some liquid inside

· ½ day at -18°C : most solids (80%), some liquid inside

· ½ day at -17°C : most solids (80%), some liquid inside

3 days at -16°C : most solids (80%), some liquid inside

· ½ day at -15°C : most solids (80%), some liquid inside

· ½ day at -14°C : most solids (80%), some liquid inside

· ½ day at -13°C : most solids (80%), some liquid inside

· ½ day at -12°C : most solids (80%), some liquid inside

· ½ day at -11°C : most solids (80%), some liquid inside

· ½ day at -10°C : most solids (80%), some liquid inside

· ½ day at -9°C : most solids (70%), some liquid inside

· ½ day at -8°C : most solids (70%), some liquid inside

· ½ day at -7°C : most solids (70%), some liquid inside

· ½ day at -6°C : most solids (70%), some liquid inside

· 3 days at -5°C : approximately 55% solids, 45% liquid

· 1 day at -4°C : approximately 30% solids, 70% liquid

· 1 day at -3°C : approximately 30% solids, 70% liquid

· 1 day at -2°C : completely dissolved

At -2°C all the crystals were dissolved. Therefore the melting point of of O,O-tert-butyl isopropyl-monoperoxycarbonate, 75% in isododecane, based on the glass tube method is -2°C.

Conclusions:
The melting/freeing point of O,O-tert-butyl isopropyl-monoperoxycarbonate, 75% in isododecane, was determined according to EC Regulation No 440/2008, Guideline A.1, and according to OECD Guideline 102. The melting point of this substance is -2°C.
Executive summary:

The melting point of O,O-tert-butyl isopropyl monoperoxycarbonate, 75% in isododecane determined according to EC Regulation No 440/2008, Guideline A.1 [1] and according to OECD Guideline 102 [2], and in accordance with European Chemicals Agency (ECHA), Guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment, Chapter R.7a, Endpoint specific guidance, May 2008 [3]. The melting point was determined using two methods, a thermal analysis method and a method a glass tube method, which is equivalent to the capillary method of the guidelines EC A.1 and OECD 102.

The melting point of the test substance is -2°C.

Description of key information
