Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
flammable solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
25 January 2017 to 08 Mar 2017
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.10 (Flammability (Solids))
Deviations:
no
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Key result
Test procedure:
burning rate test: preliminary screening test
Remarks on result:
substance does not ignite and propagate combustion either by burning with flame or smouldering along 200 mm of the powder train within the 2 minutes test period

RESULTS

- The pile melted and failed to ignite during the 2 minutes that the Bunsen flame was applied.

- The result of the preliminary screening test obviated the need to perform the main test.

Interpretation of results:
GHS criteria not met
Conclusions:
The test item has been determined to be not highly flammable as it failed to ignite in the preliminary screening test (EU Method A.10).
Executive summary:

GUIDELINE

The determination was carried out by measuring the burning rate of test item prepared as a pile of set dimensions, using a procedure designed to be compatible with Method A.10 Flammability (Solids) of Commission Regulation (EC) No 440/2008 of 30 May 2008.

RESULTS

The test item has been determined to be not highly flammable as it failed to ignite in the preliminary screening test.

Description of key information

The test item has been determined to be not highly flammable as it failed to ignite in the preliminary screening test (EU Method A.10).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
not classified

Additional information

Justification for classification or non-classification

The test item is a low-melting point solid that melted but failed to ignite during the 2 minutes that a Bunsen flame was applied. Classification as a flammable solid is therefore not required under the terms of Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008. In addition, the determined flash point and decomposition temperature of the test item demonstrates that classification as a flammable liquid is unnecessary under the terms of Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008.
