A 48-hour static renewal acute toxicity test was conducted with the cladoceran, Daphnia magna exposed to a 92.3% blend of diethylbenzene. This study was rated a Klimisch score of 1 and followed OECD 202. The study was conducted in four replicates with 5 daphnid per dose per replicate for the control and test substance, respectively. Observations for immobilization and sublethal responses were made at 24 and 48 hours of the test. At approximately 24 hours after test initiation, the daphnids were transferred from the "old" solutions (prepared at initiation) into freshly prepared solutions. Based on mean measured concentrations of the diethylbenzene blend, the 24-hour EC50 was estimated to be >2.70 mg a.i./L and the 48-hour EC50 was calculated to be 2.01 mg a.i./L. The 48-hour NOEC was 1.07 mg a.i./L based on the lack of sublethal effects at this and all lower test concentrations. An additional supporting study is also included and this study on D. magna, rated a Klimisch score of 2, determined a 48-hour EC50 value of 8.9 mg/L.
