- Details on study design:
- Undiluted vinyltrichlorosilane was applied to the skin of three groups of male rabbits (5/group at the two highest doses; 4/group at lowest dose) of doses of 1.26, 0.63 and 0.315 g/kg. The contact period was 24 hours under an occlusive "Vinylite" sheeting. Clinical signs of toxicity and body weight change were recorded over a 14 day period.
- Statistics:
- Calculation of R.F. LD50 was done by the method of Thompson.
Results and discussion
Effect levels
- Sex:
- male
- Dose descriptor:
- LD50
- Effect level:
- 0.68 mL/kg bw
- 95% CL:
- 0.48 - 0.94
- Gross pathology:
- This compound is so corrosive on rabbit skin that perforation of the abdominal wall occurs with dosages of 0.316 ml/kg and greater.

A 100% mortality was assumed for a dosage level of 2.52
ml/kg and 100% survival for 5 rabbits at 0.316 ml/kg for
calculation of R.F. LD50 by the method of Thompson.
Applicant's summary and conclusion
- Interpretation of results:
- Toxicity Category III
- Remarks:
