Description of key information

In a 96h static acute toxicity to fish test on Oncorrhynchus mykiss (rainbow trout), the LC50 value for the test substance BMS 217947 -01, was 8.4 mg/l. The NOEC was 1.9 mg/l.

In a 48h acute aquatic toxicity test on Daphnia magna, the LC50 value for the test substance BMS 217947 -01, was 29 mg/l. The NOEC was 0.91 mg/l.

BMS 217947-01 inhibited the growth of Selenastrum Capricornutum, Strain No. CCAP 278/4 at concentrations tested in excess of 0.99mg/l under the conditions of this test. The EbC50 (72 hours) was 9.7mg/l and the ErC50 (0-72 hours) was 32mg/l.

BMS 217947-01 had no biologically significant inhibitory effect on the respiration rate of activated sludge at 100mg/l, the highest concentration tested. The EC20, EC50 and EC80 of the test substance could not, therefore, be calculated but these must be greater than 100mg/ml, the highest level tested.

Based on the above, the substance is classified for Chronic aquatic toxicity, category 2.
