Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The inhibition of the degradation acitvity of activated sludge is not anticipated when introduced in appropriate low concentrations.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Data on the toxicity of the substance to microorganisms is not available. However, data on structurally analogue substances are available.

In general, the analogue substances are composed of a structurally analogue organic part laked with different metals (Ca2+, Sr2 +, Ba2 +, Mn2+). Due to the laking a disintegration of the molecule at pH values relevant in the environment is not expected. Thus an effect or a release of the metal part is not likely. Therefore a transfer of the results obtained for structural related substances to CAS 17852-98-1 is feasible (see Annex).

The results of the analogues substance indicate that a negative effect on activated sludge of the actual test substance is not to be expected. A study on CAS 7023-61-2 conducted in compliance with GLP and OECD 209 indicates that the substance is not toxic to microorganisms. Based on the respiration rate a NOEC of 100 mg/l was determined after an inoculation time of 3 hours (RCC Ltd., 2007). A second study following OECD guideline 209 and GLP was terminated after 30 minutes inoculation time. The study reports a EC20 > 1000 mg/l based on the respiration rate of activated sludge (BASF AG, 1998).
