Description of key information

Within 28 days estrone was degraded to 37 %. and the reference compound to 77 % . At the end of the study period (day 44), 64 % degradation was reached for estrone.

Additional information

The biodegradation of Estrone was studied in a ready biodegradability test according to OECD 301B (CO2 evolution test). The test substance was introduced at a concentration of 10 mg/L as carbon. Additionally, a reference substance (sodium acetate) was incubated at the same concentration and a toxicity control containing both compounds. The degradation was studied over a prolonged period of 44 days, because a plateau was not reached at day 28. The degradation startet after a lag-phase of more than 10 days. At day 28, 37% degradation was reached and at the end of the study period (day 44), 64% were degraded. Estrone is not ready biodegradable, but degrades to a large extent over a prolonged period in this screening assay. Therefore, it is likely that estrone is inherently biodegradable. The reference compound was degraded to 58% at day 10 and to 77 % at day 28. The test was performed under GLP.
