Additional information
Appearance/Physical State/Color
The chemical hydrogen [4-[4-(diethylamino)-2',4' disulphonatobenzhydrylidene]cyclohexa-2,5-dien-1 ylidene]diethylammonium, sodium salt was observed to be a solid, present as dark blue powder.
Other supporting studies from authoritative sources also suggests that the chemicalhydrogen [4-[4-(diethylamino)-2',4' disulphonatobenzhydrylidene]cyclohexa-2,5-dien-1 ylidene]diethylammonium, sodium salt was dark blue powder in appearance.
Melting point
The melting point determination of test item hydrogen [4-[4-(diethylamino)-2',4' disulphonatobenzhydrylidene]cyclohexa-2,5-dien-1 ylidene]diethylammonium, sodium salt (CAS No. 129-17-9) was done as per the test guideline OECD 102. The method followed was according to Capillary/metal block. The melting point was not observed till 316 oC and beyond this temperature the test item decomposed. Hence, the decomposition range was found to be 316.3°C - 326.6°C at 975.6 hPa
Boiling Point
In accordance with column 2 of Annex VII of the REACH regulation, the study does not need to be conducted for solids which melt above 300 °C. The experimental melting point of the the chemical hydrogen [4-[4-(diethylamino)-2',4'-disulphonatobenzhydrylidene] cyclohexa-2,5-dien-1-ylidene] diethylammonium, sodium salt was found to be between 316.3°C - 326.6°C at 975.6 hPa. Hence this end point was considered for waiver.
Density
The mean density of test itemhydrogen [4-[4-(diethylamino)-2',4'-disulphonatobenzhydrylidene] cyclohexa-2,5-dien-1-ylidene] diethylammonium, sodium salt(CAS No. 129-17-9) was determined following OECD guideline 109 according to pour and tapped density method. The pour density and tapped density of the test item was found to be0.2943 gm/cm3and 0.3923 gm/cm3at 22.2oC 977.1 hPa respectively.
Particle Size Distribution
The particle size distribution of test substance hydrogen [4-[4-(diethylamino)-2',4'-disulphonatobenzhydrylidene] cyclohexa-2,5-dien-1-ylidene] diethylammonium, sodium salt (CAS No. 129-17-9) was determined by granulometric analysis with rotap sieve shaker. The particle size distribution was found to be in the range of 150 micron to 25 micron.
Vapour Pressure
Modified Grain method was used to estimate the vapour pressure of the test chemical using MPBPVP v1.43 of EPI SUITE. The estimated vapour pressure of PATENT BLUE V or hydrogen [4-[4-(diethylamino)-2',4'-disulphonatobenzhydrylidene]cyclohexa-2,5-dien-1-ylidene]diethylammonium, sodium salt was 8.59E-034 mm Hg = 1.15E-031 Pa at 25 deg C
It is reported as 0.000000001 Pa for the chemical safety assessment due to the limitation in the field.
Partition co-efficient
The Partition coefficient (Pow) ofhydrogen[4-[4-(diethylamino)-2',4'-disulphonatobenzhydrylidene]cyclohexa-2,5-dien-1-ylidene]diethylammonium, sodium salt(CAS No. 129-17-9) at 25°C was estimated according to the OECD Guideline No. 107, adopted on 27thJuly 1995,”Shake Flask Method”. The log Pow value was found to be -2.783±0.772 at 25oC.
Water Solubility
The water solubility determination of test item Hydrogen [4-[4-(diethylamino)-2',4'-disulphonatobenzhydrylidene] cyclohexa-2,5-dien-1-ylidene]diethyl ammonium, sodium salt(CAS No. 129-17-9) was done as per the shake flask method. The solubility of Hydrogen [4-[4-(diethylamino)- 2',4'-disulphonatobenzhydrylidene]cyclohexa-2,5-dien-1-ylidene]diethylammonium, sodium salt in water was found to be 222.15 g/L at 21 oC; indicating that the chemical is highly soluble in water.
Solubility in Organic Solvents
The solubility determination of test item hydrogen [4-[4-(diethylamino)-2',4'-disulphonatobenzhydrylidene]cyclohexa-2,5-dien-1-ylidene]diethylammonium, sodium salt (CAS No. 129-17-9) in various organic solvents was done with acetone, acetonitrile, methanol, ethanol, toluene and Dimethylformamide (DMF). The solubility of the test item in DMF was found to be greater than 1000 g/l and in methanol was found to be in the range of 200 – 1000 g/l whereas, 200-100 g/l in case of Acetonitrile and less than 1g/l for acetone, ethanol and toluene, respectively at 28 °C.
Surface Tension
This end point was considered for waiver since surface activity is not a desired property of the chemical. This is in accordance with Column 2 of Annex VII of the REACH regulation, which mentions that this study needs to be only conducted if surface activity is a desired property of the material.
Flash Point
The flash point determination of Test item hydrogen [4-[4-(diethylamino)-2',4'-disulphonatobenzhydrylidene]cyclohexa-2,5-dien-1-ylidene] diethylammonium, sodium salt (CAS No. 129-17-9) was done. The method is closed cup method using Pensky Martens Flash Point Apparatus. The flashpoint of the test item was found to be 180.6°C at 977.7 hPa
Auto flammability
Hydrogen [4-[4-(diethylamino)-2',4'-disulphonatobenzhydrylidene]cyclohexa-2,5-dien-1-ylidene]diethylammonium, sodium salt did not catch fire on being exposed to air at room temperature of 27°C and atmospheric pressure of 966 hPa. This indicates that hydrogen [4-[4-(diethylamino)-2',4'-disulphonatobenzhydrylidene]cyclohexa-2,5-dien-1-ylidene]diethylammonium, sodium salt is not auto-flammable.
Flammbility
hydrogen [4-[4-(diethylamino)-2',4'-disulphonatobenzhydrylidene]cyclohexa-2,5-dien-1-ylidene]diethylammonium, sodium salt ignites only when the flame of bunsen burner having temperature of 950°C is brought in contact with it. Thus it can be concluded that hydrogen [4-[4-(diethylamino)-2',4'-disulphonatobenzhydrylidene]cyclohexa-2,5-dien-1-ylidene]diethylammonium, sodium salt is flammable only at high temperature of about 950°C. However since such high temperatures are not found under normal circumstances of transportation and use, hydrogen [4-[4-(diethylamino)-2',4'-disulphonatobenzhydrylidene]cyclohexa-2,5-dien-1-ylidene]diethylammonium, sodium salt was considered non-flammable for chemical safety assessment.
Explosiveness
This end point was considered for waiver since in accordance with column 2 of Annex VII of the REACH regulation, there are no chemical groups associated with explosive properties present in the molecule. Thus, hydrogen [4-[4-(diethylamino)-2',4'-disulphonatobenzhydrylidene]cyclohexa-2,5-dien-1-ylidene]diethylammonium, sodium salt (Synonyn C.I. Food Blue 3, Patent Blue V) is unlikely to exhibit explosive property.
Oxidising properties
This study does not need to be conducted as the substance is incapable of reacting exothermically with combustible materials, on the basis of the chemical structure. The chemical does not contain oxygen (no halogen), but the oxygen is not chemically bonded to nitrogen or oxygen. Thus, the chemical is not likely to exhibit oxidising properties.
