In the key study (Archroma Germany GmbH, 2005), the acute lethal toxicity of Acid Brown 282 (ABr282) to fish was investigated under static exposure conditions over a period of 96 h, according to the OECD guideline 203. The nominal concentrations tested were 1, 10 and 100 mg/l, respectively. There are no evidences that the concentration of the substance being tested has been satisfactorily maintained throughout the test. The study represents a screening test. All fish were dead at the nominal concentrations of 100 and 10 mg/l after 2 and 24 h of exposure, respectively; no mortality was observed at 1 mg/l and in the control after 96 h of exposure. Toxic effects other than mortality were not observed. On the basis of these data the nominal lethal concentration (LC50) to fish was estimated to be 1-10 mg/l.
Three further studies are available on the ABr282 tested at different lot concentrations and with different types of salification. In all cases the test procedures are scientifically acceptable, nevertheless many details are missing and there is no evidence that the concentration of the substance being tested has been satisfactorily maintained throughout the test. Despite the reliability cannot be confirmed, in all cases the LC50 recorded was lower than 10 mg/l, confirming the outcomes of the key study.
