Additional information

The values derived as PNECs based on QSAR species sensitivity distribution are fully in line with observed results for aquatic toxicity as this substance shows only effects, if at all, to aquatic organisms well above all thresholds for classification & labelling (100 mg/l) for some species even orders of magnitudes above. In addition the substance is readily biodegradable as shown in the data sections and a hazard to aquatic organisms is not expected.

Conclusion on classification

Methyl ethyl ketone is readily biodegradable and has a log Kow value <3 (0.3). Based on the reliable short-term E(L)C50 and long-term NOEC values being >100 mg/l, methyl ethyl ketone is not classified for acute or chronic aquatic toxicity, in accordance with Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 (as amended) (CLP).
