Registration Dossier

Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

First-aid measures

Inhalation.  Remove to fresh air. Keep warm and at rest. Get medical attention.

Skin: Remove contaminated clothing. Wash skin with soap and water. Get medical attention if skin cracking or redness occurs.

Eyes: Immediately flush eye with large quantities of water for at least 10 minutes holding the eye open. Avoid contaminating unaffected eye.

Ingestion: Wash out mouth with water. Do not induce vomiting. Keep patient warm and at rest. Give 240-300 ml water to drink ( only if patient is conscious). Repeat if patient vomits. Get medical attention.

Fire-fighting measures

Special hazards: Hazardous combustion products may include carbon monoxide.

Fire/explosion hazards: Highly flammable liquid.  Vapours may form explosive mixtures with air.  Vapour may cause flash fires.  Vapours may accumulate in low or confined areas, travel a considerable distance to a source of ignition and flash back.  Runoff to sewer may create a fire or explosion hazard.  Containers may explode when heated.

Extinguishing media: Suitable: Alcohol-resistant foam, dry chemical powder, carbon dioxide, water mist.  Unsuitable: Water in a jet.

Protective equipment: Full protective clothing and self-contained breathing apparatus.

Accidental release measures

Exposure controls and personal protection: Immediately contact emergency services.  Eliminate all sources of ignition.  Evacuate all non-essential personnel.  Ventilate area.  Be aware of possible accumulation of vapour.  Follow  fire-fighting measures.

Environmental precautions: Eliminate sources of ignition.  Keep away from drains, water and soil. Advise authorities if spilled material has entered water courses or sewer or has contaminated soil or vegetation.  Use water spray to cool heat exposed containers.

Clean up methods: Absorb or contain liquid with sand, earth or spill control material. Collect and place in a labelled sealable container for subsequent safe disposal. Flush contaminated area with plenty of water. Put leaking containers in a labelled drum or overdrum.

Handling and storage

Handling:  Eliminate sources of ignition.  Only use in well ventilated areas. Keep container tightly closed when not in use.  Provide emergency eye washing and shower facilities.  Take precautions against static discharge by earthing and bonding all containers and equipment before transferring material.  Use explosion proof electrical (ventilating, lighting and material handling) equipment.

Storage:  Storage area should be cool,  dry and away from sources of ignition.  Keep away from direct sunlight.  Keep in a well-ventilated place.  Store in a bunded area.  Suitable packaging materials: steel, aluminium, iron, copper, bronze, glass.

Exposure controls / personal protection

Occupational exposure standards:       TLV 100ppm (8hr TWA).

Technical control measures: Use local exhaust ventilation if concentrations in air could exceed occupational exposure standard.

Respiratory protection:  Use positive pressure breathing mask if concentrations in air could exceed occupational exposure standard or Gas mask with type A filter.

Eye protection:  Protective goggles with side-shields

Hand protection:  Gloves made from butyl rubber (breakthrough times >480 minutes).

Body protection: Neoprene™ apron. Rubber boots.

Environmental protection: Defined as a volatile organic chemical under directive 99/13. No special limits apply.

Stability and reactivity

Stability: Stable under normal conditions.  On storage, it is slowly decomposed by water.

Conditions to avoid: Sources of ignition, heat.

Materials to avoid: oxidizing agents, acids, alkalis.

Hazardous decomposition products: Oxides of carbon on combustion.

Disposal considerations

Waste disposal: Dispose of as hazardous waste.  Recover or recycle if possible.  Otherwise incineration.  Dispose of in accordance with all local regulations.

Container disposal: Drain container thoroughly.  Empty containers may contain highly flammable residues.  Do not cut, grind, drill, weld or dispose of containers unless adequate precautions have been taken against this hazard.  Do not remove container labels until they are cleaned.  Send to drum recover or metal reclaimer.
