Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
flammable solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
2012-02-10
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
UN Manual of Tests and Criteria: Test N.1 (Test method for readily combustible solids)
Deviations:
no
GLP compliance:
no
Key result
Test procedure:
burning rate test: preliminary screening test
Moisture (wt %):
0.04
Remarks on result:
substance does not ignite and propagate combustion either by burning with flame or smouldering along 200 mm of the powder train within the 2 minutes test period

As the moisture of the test item has an influence on the test result, the drying loss (moisture content) of the sample was measured using a drying balance. The moisture content was 0.04 %.

The preliminary test showed that the sample could not be ignited. Only in presence of the ignition flame (gas burner) a melting and a dark colouring of the sample was observed but not a propagation of burning. Therefore according to the guideline, further testing (burning rate tests) was not necessary.

Interpretation of results:
GHS criteria not met
Remarks:
Migrated information
Conclusions:
The test item was not highly flammable according to the definition in Council Regulation (EC) No 440/2008, method A.10.
Executive summary:

For the determination of the flammability of Creatine (anhydrous) a preliminary test according the UN test N.1 was performed. A sample of the test item was formed to a 250 mm long pile on a non-combustible and non-porous plate with low thermal conductivity and the pile was ignited at one end. In the preliminary test the test item could not be ignited. Only in presence of the ignition flame (gas burner) a melting and a dark colouring of the sample was observed but not a propagation of burning. That`s why the main test was not required. Creatine (anhydrous) is considered as not highly flammable according to the definition in Council Regulation (EC) No 440/2008, method A.10.

Description of key information

The flammability of Creatine (anhydrous) was determined according to the UN test N.1.

The test item is considered to be not highly flammable.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
non flammable

Additional information

The flammability of Creatine (anhydrous) was determined according to the UN test N.1. In the preliminary test the test item could not be ignited. That`s why the main test was not required. Creatine (anhydrous) is considered as not highly flammable according to the definition in Council Regulation (EC) No 440/2008, method A.10.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Due to the test result Creatine (anhydrous) can be excluded from the hazard class “flammable solids”and does not have to be classified.
