- Reliability:
- 1 (reliable without restriction)
- Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
- guideline study
- Qualifier:
- according to guideline
- Guideline:
- EU Method A.10 (Flammability (Solids))
- Deviations:
- no
- GLP compliance:
- yes
- Test procedure:
- burning rate test over 100 mm length
- Remarks on result:
- substance does not ignite and propagate combustion either by burning with flame or smouldering along 200 mm of the powder train within the 2 minutes test period
- Interpretation of results:
- GHS criteria not met
- Endpoint:
- flammable solids
- Type of information:
- experimental study
- Adequacy of study:

- yes (incl. QA statement)
- Remarks:
- Hess. Ministerium für Umwelt, Energie, Landwirtschaft und Verbraucherschutz, Mainzer Straße 80, D65189 Wiesbaden
- Interpretation of results:
- not classified based on GHS criteria
- Endpoint:
- substances / mixtures which in contact with water emit flammable gases
- Data waiving:
- study scientifically not necessary / other information available
- Justification for data waiving:
- the study does not need to be conducted because the experience in production or handling shows that the substance does not react with water, e.g. the substance is manufactured with water or washed with water
- Endpoint:
- pyrophoric solids
- Data waiving:
- study scientifically not necessary / other information available
- Justification for data waiving:
- the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is known to be stable in contact with air at room temperature for prolonged periods of time (days) and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied
- Endpoint:
- self-heating substances / mixtures
- Data waiving:
- study scientifically not necessary / other information available
- Justification for data waiving:
- the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is completely molten at 160°C
Referenceopen allclose all
In all the tests, the test substance started to melt. It was thereby classified as not highly flamable within the definition of the Directive 84/449/EEC.
Individual results
Preliminary test
The test item was a solidified melt. Therefore it was ground in a mortar before the measurement. The test item could not be ignited with a flame. The test item melted. The main test had not to be performed.
Description of key information
Non flammable solid (EU Method A.10)
No flammability on contact with water (EU Method A.12)
No pyrophoricity (EU Method A.13)
Not self-heating (Melting point < 160 °C)
Key value for chemical safety assessment
- Flammability:
- not classified
Additional information
The test substance melted when approached by the ignition flame; no flame propagation was observed.
The substance does not emit flammable gases on contact with water.
The test item has no pyrophoric property in the sense of the test procedure.
The substance is completely molten at 160 °C and therefore does not need to be considered for classification as self-heating.
Justification for classification or non-classification
The available data on flammability of the test substance do not meet the criteria for classification according to Regulation (EC) 1272/2008, and are therefore conclusive but not sufficient for classification:
The test substance melted when approached by the ignition flame; no flame propagation was observed (EU Method A.10).
The substance does not emit flammable gases on contact with water (EU Method A.12).
The test item has no pyrophoric property in the sense of the test procedure (EU Method A.13).
The substance has a melting point of 49.35 °C (-22.3 °C tehnical); the determination of self-heating behaviour is not relevant for substances that are completely molten at 160°C.
