Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
flammability
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the experience in production or handling shows that the substance does not react with water, e.g. the substance is manufactured with water or washed with water
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is known to be soluble in water to form a stable mixture
Endpoint:
flammable solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
UN Manual of Tests and Criteria: Test N.1 (Test method for readily combustible solids)
GLP compliance:
no
Remarks:
However the study was performed in a test facility, which has been certified to be in compliance with the principles of GLP.
Key result
Test procedure:
burning rate test: preliminary screening test
Remarks on result:
not determinable
Remarks:
On application of the Bunsen flame the material melted and ignited locally. The flames extinguished on removal of the test flame. No propagation occurred.
Interpretation of results:
not classified based on GHS criteria
Conclusions:
The material is not classified as dangerous with respect to its combustibility (bulk powder burning properties) under the current UN Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods.
Executive summary:

In this study according to UN Recommendations of the Transport of Dangerous Goods,

Manual of Tests and Criteria, ST/SG/AC.10/11/Rev.3, 1999. Test N.1 a train of powder ~250mm long, 20mm wide and 10mm high was ignited at one end using an aerated Bunsen flame. On application of the Bunsen flame the material melted and ignited locally. The flames extingished on removal of the test flame. No propagation occurred.

Description of key information

Not pyrophoric (based on chemical structure)
Not flammable in contact with water (based on chemical structure)

Not classified as dangerous with respect to its combustibility (Bailey 2010)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Experience in the handling and use of the substance has indicated no properties associated with flammability on contact with water or pyrophoricity.

The substance failed to sustain a flame in a flammability of solids test. The test is considered to be reliable, adequate and relevant.

Justification for classification or non-classification

This substance does not meet the criteria for classification under Regulation (EC) 1272/2008, Annex I, Part 2, 2.7. The available data are considered reliable and suitable for classification.
