Additional information

A GLP compliant 96 hour semi-static acute toxicity test with Oryzias latipes (medaka) was performed in accordance with OECD 203 to assess the toxicity of diisopentyl ether. Nominal test concentrations were: 1,0, 1.8, 3.2, 5.6 and 10 mg/L (spacing factor 1.8), a diluent control was also included and measured concentrations were determined. The results are based on geometric mean measured concentrations. At the end of the test the 96 hour LC50 was calculated to be 6.82 mg/L (CI 95% 4.76 to 9.78 mg/L). The NOEC based on mortality was 4.76 mg/L.

A 48 hour LC50 value of 4.7 mg/L has been reported in a bioaccumulation study (NITE, 1983), however no details on test method are given and the test duration is shorter than the recommended 96 hour according to OECD Guideline 203.

The experimental measurement according to GLP and OECD guidelines was considered as the key study, compared to the value reported as part of a bioaccumulation study.
