Description of key information

The test substance, nonylphenol ethoxylate sarosine derivatives was degraded by 5% at day 28 in the Closed Bottle test (OECD 301D, GLP, reliability 1). The test was prolonged and after 60 days no further degradation had occurred.

Additional information

In order to assess the biotic degradation, a ready biodegradability test was performed which allows the biodegradability to be measured in an aerobic aqueous medium. The ready biodegradability was determined in the Closed Bottle test performed according to OECD (Test Guideline 301 D), EU (Method C.4.) and ISO (Test Guideline 10107), and in compliance with the OECD principles of Good Laboratory Practice. Nonylphenol ethoxylate sarcosine derivatives did not cause a reduction in the endogenous respiration. The test substance is therefore considered to be noninhibitory to the inoculum. Nonylphenol ethoxylate sarcosine derivatives were not biodegraded in the Closed Bottle test (28 days and prolonged) and should therefore not be classified as readily biodegradable.The test is valid as shown by an endogenous respiration of 1.3 mg/L. Sodium acetate was degraded by 74% of its theoretical oxygen demand after 14 days.Finally, the most important criterion was met by oxygen concentrations >0.5 mg/L in all bottles during the test period.
