Description of key information

The water solubility of HMTBA was predicted by QSAR to be 1000000 mg/L (default value to be used in numerical models) or infinitely soluble.

The molecule of HMTBA presents one thio-ether, one alcohol and one carboxylic acid functions. Such structural features confer it an ability to interact by hydrogen bonding with a polar solvent such as water. As there is no hydrophobic end of the chain, water solubility is expected to be high, and no amphipathic behavior is expected.

The substance placed on the market can be concentrated from dilute solutions up to a water residual of 1% with no phase change. This is indicative of a high solubility in water, and is to be expected based on the chemical functions of the molecule. Results of a QSAR can corroborate this consideration.
