Description of key information

The acute toxicity of the test item to Fish (Danio rerio) was tested in a static test. After 96 hours of exposure, a LL50 of >100 mg/L was determined. Due to the heterogeneous composition of the test substance the Lethal Loading (LL) was determined upon water accommodated fraction (WAF) without chemical analysis.

Additional information

Key value should read > 100 mg/L as no effect was observed up to the highest test concentration of 100 mg/L.

A study was performed to assess the acute toxicity of the test item to Fish (Danio rerio) under static conditions. The study was conducted in accordance with the Council Regulation (EC) No 440/2008, Method C.1 'Acute toxicity for Fish'(2008) which is in most parts equivalent to the OECD Guideline for Testing of Chemicals No. 203 'Fish, Acute Toxicity Test' (1992).

The Fish were exposed to a concentration of 100 mg/L of the substance dissolved in dilution water. Defined loading of the test item led to a certain percentage proportion of dead fish at the end of the 96 hours study period. Mortalities were recorded at 24 hours intervals. Additionally any abnormal behaviour or appearance of the fish was recorded every 24 hours.

After 96 hours of exposure a LL50 of >100 mg/L (nominal) was determined.

The results are expressed in terms of Lethal Loading (LL). The substance has not a definite or unique structure and consists of several constituents. Water Accommodated Fractions (WAFs) were used to test effects at different effective loadings and no specific analysis was performed. With the sponsor’s agreement, the content of the test item during the exposure period was verified by DOC determination.

This toxicity study is classified acceptable and satisfies the guideline requirements for the acute Fish.
