The detector calibration, for the n-octanol phase analysis, was found to be linear over the range 0 to 5 mg/l of standard solutions in acetone:n-octanol (95:5 v/v), with a regression coefficient of 0.9992.

The detector calibration, for the aqueous phase analysis, was found to be linear over the range 0 to 10 mg/l of standard solutions in acetone:water (99:1 v/v), with a regression coefficient of 0.9995.

It is acknowledged that samples E and F for the n-octanol phases fall outside of the prepared calibration range. These results, however, have been accepted as the samples fall within the demonstrated linear range for the aqueous samples. The response of the aqueous calibration standards was found to be comparable to that of the n-octanol calibration standards. The mean concentration of HEAA from the n-octanol stock solution was found to be 533.7 mg/l. The mean recovery of HEAA from the spikes prepared in n-octanol saturated water was found to be 103%.

No significant peaks were observed in the chromatograms of blank solutions, indicating that the analytical method was free from interference.

Conclusions:
HEAA was found to have logPow value of -0.73 ( Pow = 0.19 ).
