Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Test procedure:
other: screening test for self-ignition in the Grewer-Oven with pure test item
Max. temp. reached:
412
Result:
other: An endothermic effect could be observed starting at a temperature of 140 °C. No further thermal effects could be observed up to the maximum test temperature of 412 °C.
Remarks on result:
other: A black residue remained in the wire basket after the test
Key result
Test procedure:
other: screening test for self-ignition in the Grewer-Oven (test item in mixture with Kieselguhr)
Max. temp. reached:
335
Result:
other: A small exothermic effect was detected starting at approx. 190 °C which led to a temperature increase up to 335 °C (corresponding temperature of the reference material 317 °C).
Remarks on result:
other: Before the small exothermic effect, an endothermic effect could be observed starting at a temperature of 140 °C. A black/grey residue remained in the wire basket after the test.

In the investigation of self-ignition in the Grewer Oven for the pure test item an endothermic effect could be observed starting at a temperature of 140 °C. No further thermal effects could be observed up to the maximum test temperature of 412 °C. A black residue remained in the wire basket after the test.

For the test item in mixture with Kieselguhr an endothermic effect could be observed starting at a temperature of 140 °C. A small exothermic effect was detected starting at approx. 190 °C which led to a temperature increase up to 335 °C (corresponding temperature of the reference material 317 °C). A black/grey residue remained in the wire basket after the test.

The table below shows the results of the screening test.

Interpretation of results:
not classified based on GHS criteria
Conclusions:
The pure test item 4-NPP, di-TRIS (CAS no. 68189-42-4) showed an endothermic effect starting at a temperature of 140 °C. No further thermal effects could be observed up to the maximum test temperature of 412 °C.
On the basis to the results of the tests on the self-ignition in the Grewer Oven the test item is classified as follows:
UN Transport Regulation: The test item does not have to be classified as self-heating substance in Class 4, Division 4.2 according to the UN Transport Regulation.
GHS / CLP Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008 Annex I: 2.11: The test item does not have to be classified as self-heating substance according to GHS / CLP Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008 Annex I: 2.11.
Executive summary:

The pure test item 4-NPP, di-TRIS (CAS no. 68189-42-4) showed an endothermic effect starting at a temperature of 140 °C. No further thermal effects could be observed up to the maximum test temperature of 412 °C.
