No existing harmonised classification in CLP Regulation Annex VI.
Environmental classification and labelling of a substance is based on data from short-term aquatic toxicity results, and long-term aquatic toxicity results if available, the ready biodegradability of the substance and an experimentally determined BCF (or if absent the measured octanol/water partition coefficient).
Data available :
- lowest EL50 value at 135 mg/L;
- lowest EL10/NOEL value at 28 mg/L;
- Not Rapidly biodegradable;
- log Kow > 4.0
CLP Classification proposal:
Short-term aquatic toxicity data is available for two trophic levels (aquatic invetebrates and algae). Since the lowest EL50 value is above 1mg/L, the substance is not classified for short-term hazards to the aquatic environment.
Chronic aquatic toxicity data is only available for one trophic level (algae). Therefore, the long-term hazard has been assessed based on both:
a) The chronic aquatic toxicity data for algae (ErL10 = 28 mg/L), which results in no chronic classification because the value is > 1 mg/L, and
b) The acute aquatic toxicity data for aquatic invertebrates (EL50 = 135 mg/l) and and environmental fate data (not rapidly degradable with constituents having log Kow > 4), which results to an absence of chronic classification.
Thus, based on the above data and according to the CLP Regulation 1272/2008/EC & adaptation, the registered substance is considered as not classified for the environment.
GHS classification proposal:
Since the lowest EL50 value is >100 mg/L, no additional short-term hazard to the aquatic environment applies regarding the Globally Harmonized System (GHS) of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals. Based on the above data and according to the GHS system (ST/SG/AC.10/30/Rev.7), the registered substance is not classified for acute and chronic toxicity for the environment.
