Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Tetrakis(2 -ethylhexane-1,3 -diolato)titanium is hydrolytically unstable (half-life < 10 minutes based on study of structurally similair substance. Also the organic degradation product relesed upon hydrolysis (EHD) decomposes rapidly.

A read across approach has been used to assess the aquatic toxicty of the EHD to assess structural similair substance, 2 -EH.

The adsorption coefficient for 2 -EH, Koc value of 35.28 L/kg is used in CSA. The Koc value of 2 -ethylhexanol is estimated by using KOCWIN v.2 (US EPA. 2012, Estimation Programs Interface Suite™ for Microsoft® Windows, v 4.10).

The other degradation product (hydrated titanium dioxide) of the target substance is not relevant to be further considered in CSA as it is a solid inorganic precipitate released from the substance after hydrolysis (Brekelmans 2013). It is a non-classified substance having low toxicity to human health and the environment. This decomposition product is also insoluble in water and therefore lacking bioavailability. According to the report of International Programme on Chemical Safety, titanium is also poorly absorbed and retained by both animals and plants (WHO 1982).

General discussion of the transport and distribution is presented in section fate and pathways.
