- Conclusions:
- FAT 41048 can be considered immobile and to remain preferably in soil.
- Executive summary:
The determination of the adsorption coefficient (Koc) of FAT 41039/A, structural analogue of FAT 41048, was performed according to the OECD Guideline for the Testing of Chemicals, No. 121, Estimation of the Adsorption Coefficient (Koc) on Soil and Sewage Sludge using High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), January, 2001 and the EC Directive 2001/59, C.19.
The test item solution was injected three times and the combined reference solution was injected six times. The log Koc for each peak of the test item was calculated using a regression curve (log k' vs. log Koc) and was found to be 4.6, 5.0 and 5.6 respectively, which is equal to a Koc value of 40849, 94426 and 444823, respectively. In the present study the reference items covered the range of log Koc 1.25 to log Koc 5.63. The chromatography of the test item resulted in three main peaks that could not be separated very well from each other. The retention time of each peak was reproducible.
The HPLC method was therefore considered to be suitable for the purpose of the study.
Based on the chromatographic data, FAT 41039/A was considered to be stable during the test procedure. The peak at about 2.5 minutes was due to the solvent (this peak could also be detected in the HPLC-chromatogram of the blank solution).
In conclusion, the log of the adsorption coefficient (Koc) of FAT 41039/A was estimated to be
1st Peak log Koc = 4.6 which is equal to a Koc value of 40849
2nd Peak log Koc = 5.0 which is equal to a Koc value of 94426
3rd Peak log Koc = 5.6 which is equal to a Koc value of 444823
using the HPLC method. These values indicate that FAT 41039/A is immobile and remains preferably in soil. Using principles of read across, FAT 41048 can also be considered to be immobile and to remain in soil.
