Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.
The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information
Short term studies :
Short-term toxicity to fish
In the Key study a structural analogue was found to cause no toxic effects to Zebrafish after 96 hours when tested with the water accommodated fraction with a nominal loading rate of 100 mg/L. The LL0 after 96 hours is 100 mg/L All effect levels are based on the nominal loading level of the test item.
In a supporting study the LC50of the test item is estimated to be greater than the applied nominal test concentration 100 mg/L.
Fathead minnow (Pimphales promelas) were exposed to CASRN 93-83-4 at nominal concentrations of 0 (control), 0.625, 1.25, 2.50, 5.00 or 10.0 mg/L under static conditions for 96 hours. Twenty fish were exposed to each treatment concentration. 96 -hr LC50= 2.6 mg/L. Result: NES
Short term toxicity to invertebrates
Water flea (Daphnia magna) were exposed to CASRN 68603-42-9 in two static tests conducted at 48-hours. The dissolve oxygen and pH measurements ranged from 3.7-7.7 and from 7-8, respectively, for highest test concentration.
Result:
48-hr LC50= 2.15 mg/L
48-hr LC50= 2.64 mg/L
Result: NES
In the key study with a structural analogue at the water accommodated fraction (WAF) with a nominal loading of 100 mg/L of the test item no effects were observed on Daphnia magna
TOXICITY TOAQUATICPLANTS(ALGAE)
Algae exposed were to a range of concentrations (three replicates/concentration) in a mineral nutrient solution for 72 hours. Cell counts were made daily and treatment levels were compared to the control group.
Nominal concentrations (mg/l): Not stated
Measured concentrations (mg/l): Not stated
Unit: mg active matter/l
Element value: 72-hour EbC50
Result: 72-hour EbC50 = 1.1 mg active matter/l
Result: NES
In this study a structural analogue caused slightly inhibition on the growth rate and yield of the freshwater green alga Desmodesmus subspicatus was found after 72 hours exposure to the test item Fatty acids, C16-18-, reaction products with diethanolamine. All effect values given are based on the nominal loading level of the test item Fatty acids, C16-18-, reaction products with diethanolamine.
The substance is readily biodegradable, however the calculated log kow is > 4 (4.849 for constituent with min. molecular weight 343.55 and 6.814 for constituent with max. molecular weight 399.66) and a BCF > 500 (614.42 l/kg wet-wt) was calculated for the main constituent with max. molecular weight . These data suggest a potential for bioaccumulation and the need for further investigation on chronic toxicity of the substance according to 9.1.3 (Annex VIII).
Long-term toxicity studies
Waiving according to "column 2" in Annex IX of REGULATION (EC) No 1907/2006 (CSA does not indicate need for further investigations)
