Description of key information

In general, absorption of alcohol and secondary aliphatic ketones is expected to occur rapidly in the tract gastrointestinal.

The possible metabolic reactions involved in the biotransformation of secondary ketones are:

(i) ketone reduction to the corresponding secondary alcohol, with subsequent excretion in the urine or in the bile as conjugate of the acid glucuronide;

(ii) omega oxidation of short-chain ketones (carbon atoms <5) or group oxidation terminal methyl and subsequent oxidation to produce an alpha-keto-carboxylic acid;

(iii) oxidation of doubles ties.
A rabbit study showed that about 41% of 2-Eptanone given orally is eliminated with urine in the form of conjugated glucuronic acid (heptil-2-glucuronide). More recent studies have shown that 2-Heptanone can be transformed into hydroxyketone, subsequently transformed into heptane-2,6-dione via oxidation.
