Appearance/physical state/colour:
In an experiment conducted by SSS (Europe) AB,the chemical n Hexyl amine was observed as colourless liquid in appearance.
Other supporting studies from reliable sources such as handbooks and authoritative database also suggests that the test substance Hexylamine was white colored organic liquid with ammonia like odor.
freezing point:
In a test conducted by SSS (Europe)AB,the Freezing point determination of test itemn-Hexyl amine(CAS No.111-26-2) was done using crushed ice and salt bath. The determination was done on the basis of cooling curve (time vs temperature) obtained when the test item was placed in the cooling bath. No crystallization was observed up to -12.7°C. Hence, the freezing point was concluded to be less than -12.7°C at 977.9 hPa.
Other supporting studies from reliable sources such as handbooks and authoritative database,also suggests that the freezing point of chemical Hexylamine was between the range of -23 degree C to -21 degree C.
As the data from lab has K1 reliability and the test was performed using standard methods which has the value of freezing point as -12.7 degree celcius thus considered as key study for the chemical safety assessment.
Boiling point:
In a test conducted by SSS (Europe)AB,the boiling point determination of n-hexylamine (CAS No. 111-26-2) was done as per the test guideline OECD 103. The method followed was according toSiwoloboff. The mean boiling point was determined to be 131.6°C at 978.2 hPa.
Other supporting studies from reliable sources such as handbooks and authoritative database,also suggests that the boiling point of chemical Hexylamine was between the range of 126 degree C to 132.8 degree C.
As the data from lab has K1 reliability and the test was performed using OECD guidelines which has the value of boiling point as 131.6 degree celcius thus considered as key study for the chemical safety assessment.
Density:
In a test conducted by SSS (Euroope)AB,the density of test item n-Hexyl amine (CAS No. 111-26-2) was determined following OECD guideline 109 and according to the Indian standard method for determination of density of liquids [IS 4730:1994 (Reaffirmed 2010)]. The mass by volume ratio was determined using pyknometer. The mean density of the test item was found to be0.7583 gm/cm3at 20oC and 977.6 hPa.
Other supporting studies from reliable sources such as handbooks and authoritative database,also suggests that the density of chemical Hexylamine was between the range of 0.763 g/cm3 to 0.767 g/cm3.
As the data from lab has K1 reliability and the test was performed using OECD guidelines which has the value of density as 0.7583 g/cm3 thus considered as key study for the chemical safety assessment.
Particle Size Distribution:
In accordance with REACH Chapter R.7A Endpoint Specific Guidance, specifically R.7.1.14.1 Information requirements on granulometry, the granulometry study does not need to be conducted as the test substance,hexylamine is marketed or used in a non solid or granular form.The test substance, hexylamine is a clear colorless liquid at room temperature and as such this study is not technically feasible.Hence this endpoint was considered for waiver.
Vapour pressure:
Vapour pressure of the test substance hexylamine was found to be 1060 Pa at 20 °C.
Partition coefficient:
Various authorative sources indicate that the Partition coefficient (log Pow) value of the substance hexylamine was found to be 2.06 at 25 deg.C
Water solubility:
The water solubility determination of test item CAS No.111-26-2was done by HPLC. The mean water solubility was found to be1100.77 mg/l@250C.
Surface tension:
The surface tension of hexylamine was determined to be 26.92 mN/m which suggest that substance hexylamine is surface active substance.
Flash point:
As per the available data for flash point fromlaboratoryreport and authoritative databases, the flash point value determined was in range from 27 degree C to 29.4 degree C. As the data fromlaboratoryhas K1 reliability and the test was performed using OECD guidelines which has the value of flash point as 28 °C at975.6 hPa within the range,thus considered as key study for the chemical safety assessment. Also based on criteria mentioned in CLP regulation the chemical has flash point <than 60 degree C and boiling point >35 degree C, the hexylamine (111-26-2) was classified in Flammable Liquid Category 3.

Explosiveness
According to theoretical considerations based on chemical structure, hexylamine does not possess explosive properties. The reason for this is there are no chemical groups associated with explosive properties in hexylamine. Thus, as per column 2 of Annex VII this end point was considered for waiver.
Oxidising properties
In accordance with column 2 of Annex VII of the REACH regulation this testing was considred scientifically unjustified since the the substance is incapable of reacting exothermically with combustible materials, on the basis of the chemical structure (e.g. organic substances not containing oxygen or halogen atoms and these elements are not chemically bonded to nitrogen or oxygen.
pH:
The pH determination of test itemn-Hexyl amine(CAS No. 111-26-2) was done as per the test guideline OECD 122. The pH of the test solution was determined with the help ofpH meter. The pH was found to be 12.9 at 30.0 °C.
Viscosity:
The viscosity determination of Test item n-hexylamine (CAS No. 111-26-2) was done as per the test guideline OECD 114 using Redwood Viscometer No. 1.Kinematic viscosity (experimental) of Test item at 200C and 400C is13.27mm2/sec and12.22mm2/s,respectively. Dynamic viscosity (calculated) of Test item at 200C and 400C is10.06mPa.S and 9.26 mPa.S, respectively.
