The calibration test resulted in 17.86 mPa.s at 20 °C which is in the recommended range of ±5% and consequently the instrument was deemed calibrated and suitable for use. At both temperatures, the behaviour of the test substance was found to be Newtonian over the measured shear range.

Executive summary:

The viscosity was determined in an OECD 114 experiment using Rotational Viscometer Method to be 4.9 mPa.s at 20 °C, 3.0 mPa.s at 40 °C. At both temperatures the behaviour of the test substance was found to be Newtonian over the measured shear range of 10 - 400 s-1 at 20 °C, respectively 10 - 311 s-1 at 40 °C.

The viscosity of test material has been determined to be 4.9 mPa.s at 20 °C and 3.0 mPa.s at 40 °C respectively in a guideline test. As classification for aspiration hazards according to CLP (Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008) is only relevant to hydrocarbons but not for esters; a classification of 2-ethylhexyl 3,5,5-trimethylhexanoate for aspiration hazards is not required.
