Test solutions

Details on test solutions:
Identity and concentration of auxiliary solvent for dispersal: Peliminary solutions were prepared in dimethylformamide at a
concentration of 100mg/10ml solvent. An aliquot of this
solution was then dispersed in culture medium to give the
1mg/l test concentration.

For the purpose of the definitive study the test material was prepared using a preliminary solution in dimethylformamide. An amount of test material (100 mg) was dissolved in dimethylformamide and the volume adjusted to 10 ml to give a 100 mg/10 ml solvent stock solution. An aliquot (500 µl) of this solvent stock solution was dispersed in algal suspension (5 Litres) to give the test concentration of 1.0 mg/l.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Validity criteria fulfilled:
yes
Conclusions:
Exposure of Scenedesmus subspicatus to the test material gave EC50 values of greater than 1.0 mg/I and correspondingly the No Observed Effect Concentration was equal to 1.0 mg/I. The test concentration of 1.0 mg/I was the highest attainable test concentration that could be prepared due to the limited solubility of the test material in water and auxiliary solvent and having due regard to the amount of auxiliary solvent permitted in the test under the OECD Guidelines.
Executive summary:

The effect of the test material on the growth of Scenedesmus subspicatus has been investigated and gave EC50 values of greater than 1.0 mg/I. Correspondingly the No Observed Effect Concentration was equal to 1.0 mg/l. Based on the time-weighted mean measured test concentration the EC50 values were calculated to be greater than 0.49 mg/l. Correspondingly the No Observed Effect Concentration was equal to 0.49 mg/l.
