Short-term toxicity to fish:
Short term toxicity to fish was estimated for 96 hrs aquatic toxicity study from EPI suite, 2016 ECOSAR version 1.1 predicted model.
Study was conducted to assess toxic effects of the test compound 3-(1H-benzimidazol-2-yl)-7-(diethylamino)-2-benzopyrone (CAS no 27425 -55 -4) on fish. The predicted data suggests the lethal concentration (LC50) for the test compound was estimated to be 8.519 mg/l.
Supporting experimental study also indicate that the test substance is non toxic to fish with NOEC value 20 mg/l. (UERL lab report ;2016)
According to CLP regulations, the chemical was classified in chronic category 2 but as the test chemical was readily biodegradable in water and Bioaccumulation factor i.e BCF also less than 500 reported as 124.1 based on these conditions the test chemical was considered as not toxic to fish and thus not consider for further classification.
Short term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates:
Various predicted data for the target chemical 3-(1H-benzimidazol-2-yl)-7-(diethylamino)-2-benzopyrone were reviewed to summarize the following information:
48 hrs aquatic toxicity study (SSS QSAR prediction model, 2016) was conducted to assess toxic effects of the test compound 3-(1H-benzimidazol-2-yl)-7-(diethylamino)-2-benzopyrone (CAS no:27425 -55 -4) and the results were predicted. The study was based on the effects of the test compound on Daphnia magna in a static fresh water system. The predicted data suggests the effective concentration (EC50) for the test compound was estimated to be 32.30059433 mg/l.
According to the result, chemical was classified in chronic catagory 3 but as the it was readily biodegradable the chemical was considered as not classified as per CLP regulation.
Short term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates was estimated for 48 hrs aquatic toxicity study (EPI suite, 2016 ECOSAR version 1.1)
was conducted to assess toxic effects of the test compound 3-(1H-benzimidazol-2-yl)-7-(diethylamino)-2-benzopyrone (CAS no 27425 -55 -4) and the results were predicted. The study was based on the effects of the test compound on Daphnia magna in a static fresh water system. The predicted data suggests the lethal concentration (LC50) for the test compound was estimated to be 5.648 mg/l. According to CLP regulations, the chemical was classified in chronic category 2 but as the chemical was readily biodegradable, hence the chemical was considered as not classified.On the basis of results of various predictions for toxicity to aquatic invertebrates, it can be considered that the substance is not likely to be toxic to aquatic invertebrates at environmentally relevant concentrations and also can be classified as non- hazardous as per the criteria of CLP regulation.
Toxicity to algae and cyanobacteria:
72 hrs aquatic toxicity study was predicted (SSS QSAR Prediction model, 2016) to assess toxic effects of the test compound 3-(1H-benzimidazol-2-yl)-7-(diethylamino)-2-benzopyrone (CAS No. 27425-55-4) and the results were predicted. The study was based on the effects of the test compound on Pseudokirchnerella subcapitata in a static fresh water system. The predicted data suggests the effective concentration (EC50) for the test compound 3-(1H-benzimidazol-2-yl)-7-(diethylamino)-2-benzopyrone (CAS No. 27425-55-4) was estimated to be 15.956 mg/l on the basis of growth rate. Thus based on this value, it can be concluded that the substance can be classified as aquatic chronic category 3. Since the test chemical is readily biodegradable in nature, test chemical 3-(1H-benzimidazol-2-yl)-7-(diethylamino)-2-benzopyrone can be considered asnon-toxic to aquatic organisms and thus cannot be classified as hazardous as per the CLP criteria.
