Description of key information
In accordance with column 2 of REACH Annex VII, the ready biodegradability study (required in section 9.2.1.1.) does not need to be conducted as the substance is inorganic.
As an inorganic substance with the chemical structure "C", bulk forms of carbon black are not biodegraded by microorganisms. The generally accepted guidelines for the examination of the biodegradability of substances (i.e., OECD-and EU-guidelines) can be used only for organic substances. A biodegradation study is scientifically unjustified.
