The bioaccumulation potential of 1,3-dioxolane can be safely predicted by the chemical structure and physical-chemical properties. The predicted bioaccumulation is low; therefore, for the reason of animal welfare a study using animals is not justified and fulfils the criteria of Annex IX 9.3.2 (The study need not be conducted if: — the substance has a low potential for bioaccumulation (for instance a log Kow 3) and/or a low potential to cross biological membranes). 1,3-dioxolane has Log Pow = -0.31.The bioaccumulation is calculated with the BCFBAF program (v3.00) Log BCF= 0.50.
