Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Density calculated with the Ideal Gas Law : ¿ = 0.0023 g/cm3 at 0°C and 0.0021 g/cm3 at 25°C.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

In accordance with column 2 of REACH Annex VII, a relative density study does not need to be conducted as the substance is a gas. An estimation based on calculation shall be made from the molecular weight and the Ideal Gas Laws, ¿ = m/V. The molecular weight of the substance is 52.02 g/mol.

At 0°C 1 mol of gas at normal conditions has the volume of 22.4 l so ¿ = 2.32 g/l = 0.0023 g/cm3 at 0°C.

At 25°C, 1 mol of gas has a volume of 24.5 l so ¿ = 2.13 g/l = 0.0021 g/cm3 at 25°C.

A peer reviewed handbook gives a density of vapours of 2.98kg/m3 at -57.1°C and a density of the liquefied gas of 959 kg/m3 at 25°C.
