Biodegradation:
Biodegradation is not relevant for inorganic substances like diniobium pentaoxide (CAS 1313-96-8).
Bioaccumulation:
Elemental diniobium pentaoxide (CAS 1313-96-8) is inert and cannot be metabolised, thus it cannot be accumulated in living being.
Aquatic acute toxicity:
ErC50 (72 h) > 100 mg/L (nominal) for Raphidocelis subcapitata (OECD 201)
Aquatic chronic toxicity:
NOEC (21 d) ≥ 10 mg/L (nominal) for Daphnia magna (OECD 211, static renewal test)
No intrinsic toxic properties by the test item towards Raphidocelis subcapitata (OECD 201, static. Observed effects resulting into an ErC10 of 4.03 mg/L are attributed to physical effects)
A long-term test with fish (OECD 210) is ongoing (CCH-D-2114517435-52-01/F). Reasons for the delay are summarized in the statements attached in IUCLID section 6.1.2 (‘Status of Fish early life stage toxicity Tests (OECD 210) with Niobium pentoxide, ECHA decision number: CCH-D-2114517435-52-01/F).
Classification according to CLP
Acute toxicity data for diniobium pentaoxide (CAS 1313-96-8) are available for one trophic level (freshwater algae) and chronic toxicity data are available for two trophic levels (freshwater algae and aquatic invertebrates). Neither acute effects toward algae (ErC50 (72 h) > 100 mg/L (nominal)) nor chronic effects towards aquatic invertebrates (NOEC (21 d) > 10 mg/L (nominal)) were detected. The effects (resulting into an ErC10 (72 h) of 4.03 mg/L (nominal)) observed in the freshwater algae study are attributed to physical effects and not to intrinsic toxic properties of the substance, as explained in detail in IUCLID section 6.1.5. Therefore, the substance is not considered to cause any acute or chronic toxic effects on aquatic species up to its solubility limit and does not need to be classified for environmental toxicity according to the consolidated version of Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 and further amendments (ATPs).
This conclusion will be re-evaluated, based on the results of the ongoing long-term test with fish (OECD 210, CCH-D-2114517435-52-01/F). Reasons for the delay are summarized in the statements attached in IUCLID section 6.1.2 (Status of Fish early life stage toxicity Tests (OECD 210) with Niobium pentoxide, ECHA decision number: CCH-D-2114517435-52-01/F).
