Additional information

Plant sterols occur naturally in the environment and are plant derived. Concentrations of plant sterols are considered with reference to the key marker substance,  β-sitosterol, which is the major constituent by weight in plant sterols as registered. Measured concentrations of β-sitosterol in the environment are consistent with its ubiquitous essentiality in plant matter.
