Description of key information

The sample did not meet the classification criteria of Division 5.1 according to UN "Manual of Tests and Criteria" test method O.1. Thus, 4-Hydroxy TEMPO is not considered to have oxidising properties.

no

Additional information

A study was conducted according to UN "Manual of Tests and Criteria", test method O.1 to determine the oxidising properties of 4-Hydroxy TEMPO. The test item was mixed with cellulose in two ratios 4:1 and 1:1 and was formed to a defined conical pile. The mixtures were electrically ignited on a plate with low thermal conductivity and the mean burning time from five trials was determined. Reference mixtures (2:3 and 3:2 ratios of potassium bromate and cellulose) were tested. The burning time of the test item mixture clearly exceed the burning time of the reference mixtures. Thus, 4-Hydroxy TEMPO did not meet the classification criteria of Division 5.1. of UN "Manual of Tests and Criteria". Thus, the test item is not considered to have oxidising properties.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Based on study results (2012 -0452 -DKS), the test substance 4 -Hydroxy Tempo does not possess oxidising properties. Classification and labelling with respect to oxidising properties according to Directive 67/548/EEC and Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 (CLP) is not required.
