Description of key information

The most reliable and sensitive value describing the toxicity of 1-chlorobutane to Daphnia magna resulted in an EC50(48h) value of 452 mg/L.

Additional information

The key study for acute toxicity of 1-chlorobutane to daphnids was conducted according to EU-Method C.2 and to GLP under static conditions (Hüls 1993). Concentrations in the range of nominally 100 to 800 mg/L were tested (no analytics). The effect to Daphnia magna resulted in an EC50(48h) value of nominally 452 mg/L. At the nominal concentrations of 280 and 400 mg/L, animals recovered from immobility on the second day of exposure (24 to 48 hours), likely due to loss of the highly volatile test substance.

Two supporting publications reported EC50(48) values of 652.4 and 3020 mg/L under static conditions (Yen et al. 2002, Kühn et al. 1989).
