Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

In a GLP study, conducted according to OECD guideline 203, 96-hr EC50 and LC50 values for DEIPA of greater than 100 mg/L in a freshwater static limit test with rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) were determined. The NOEC was considered to be 100 mg/L since no mortalities or sublethal effects were observed at this level (Marino et al. 1999a).

Additional information

In a GLP study (reliability 1), conducted according to OECD guideline 203, the acute toxicity of DEIPA to rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) was evaluated in a 96-hr freshwater static limit test. The test was performed at a target concentration of 100 mg/L and 0 mg/L (water control) with 10 fish per dose level and 3 replicates per concentration. The fish were observed after 4 hr of exposure and every 24 hr thereafter for mortality and sublethal effects. The no-observed-effect concentration (NOEC) was considered to be 100 mg/L since no mortalities or sublethal effects were observed at this level over the 96-hr study duration. The 96-hr EC50 (concentration that effects 50% of the test population) and LC50 (concentration that is lethal to 50% of the test population) can be determined as greater than 100 mg/L (Marino et al. 1999a).

In summarising this study, NICNAS (2009) concluded that DEIPA was not acutely harmful to fish.

Using the ECOSAR (v1.0) programme [class aliphatic amines] in EPISuite a 96-hr LC50 of 7926 and 8160 mg/L (ppm) has been predicted for fresh- and salt-water fish, respectively (US EPA, 2011). DEIPA is a readily-biodegradable miscible liquid and no adverse effects were seen in a reliable short-term toxicity test with freshwater invertebrates at up to 100 mg/L. Therefore, long-term toxicity testing is not considered a high priority for further work.
