Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The inhibition of the degradation activity of activated slugde is not anticipated when indroduced in appropriate low concentrations.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

A respiration inhibition test was performed with a hydrolysate of the test substance 3,5,5-trimethylhexanoyl chloride following EG-Guideline 88/302/EGW under GLP conditions. The 3-h EC20 was 450 mg/L (BASF AG, 1990). Due to the expected hydrolysis of the test item, the test results may also cover effects from the hydrolysis products.

The effect of 3,5,5-trimethylhexanoic acid on domestic activated sludge was tested in a respiration inhibition test with a duration of 3 h according to OECD 209. The EC50 (3 h) is 470 mg/L, the EC10/NOEC (3 h) corresponds to 230 mg/L (Oxea, 1989). Inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is not anticipated when introduced in appropriately low concentrations.
