Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Ethanoldiglycine is not classified as dangerous or hazardous.

EDG-Na2 can exist in both solid and liquid form.

For several endpoints two studies are available, one for the solid form EDG-Na2 and one for the 28% solution of EDG-Na2.

Ethanoldiglycine, disodium salt (EDG-Na2) is an odourless off white powder.

Ethanoldiglycine, disodium salt (EDG-Na2) 28% aqueous solution is an odourless clear light yellow liquid.

For EDG-Na2 salt no final melting temperature could be determined because of decomposition from 142±0.5°C (416±0.5 K)

The relative density of the dried form of EDG-Na2 (trade name VERSENE HEIDA) has been determined to be 1.61 at 20.7±0.5°C.

The density of the commercial product Dissolvine EDG (28% EDG-Na2 aqueous solution) is 1171 kg/m3.

The particle size distribution of the dried product EDG-Na2 salt (trade name VERSENE HEIDA) is: <100 μm: 12.8%; <10.0 μm: 1.04% and <5.5 μm: 0.267%.

The vapour pressure of the dried product EDG-Na2 (trade name VERSENE HEIDA) has been determined to be 0.065 Pa at 25ºC. Based on its multiple carboxylic acid salt functionality the pure substance will exhibit negligible vapor pressure. Because of its high polarity the substance always contains a few % of water so the vapour pressure exhibited by this substance is expected to be that of the adherent water. As the solid substance can also contain crystal water, it cannot be easily dried applying vacuum only.

The estimated log Kow for EDG-Na2 is -8.27.

The water solubility of the dried product EDG-Na2 (trade name VERSENE HEIDA) was determined to be in the range of 74.7 to 79.7% w/w at 20±0.5°C.

The surface tension of EDG-Na2 (trade name VERSENE HEIDA) has been determined to be 72.0 mN/m at 21.4±0.5°C (1.2 g/L solution). The test item is considered not to be surface-active.

The dried product EDG-Na2 (trade name VERSENE HEIDA) has been determined to have a relative self-ignition temperatureof 369°C.

EDG-Na2 is non flammable, non explosive and has no oxidising properties.

The dissociation constants log K of EDG-Na2 are 8.68, 2.20 and 1.6.

Based on visual inspection and read across, the viscosity of a 28% EDG-Na2 aqueous solution is expected to be between 2 -10 mPa.s.
