No specific tests on the substance under registration are available, nevertheless data on the similar substance 3a-MSA is available and is considered for the evaluation of the toxicity to microorganisms.
Justification for Read Across is given in Section 13 of IUCLID.
The similar substance 1 -DSA, is a good representative in the group because solubility is very high for both substances (550 mg/l for 1 -MSA and 201 g/l for 1 -DSA). The two available studies were performed according to GLP and Respiratory Inhibition (IC50) is greather than 100 mg/l, nevertheless the original reports are missing, therefore reliability is actually set to 4.
The remaining supporting studies were performed on the analogous 3a-MSA. The substance is less polar, less reactive and makes the molecule slightly less soluble compared to the 1 -DSA. The latter can therefore considered as a representative conservative analogous for the aquatic toxicity because of the higher bioavailability and higher reactivity with organic substrates.
All of those studies demonstrate that the substance do not inhibit the degradation activity of activated sludge in concentrations higher or equal to 100 mg/l.
