Sampling and analysis

Details on sampling:
A sample of 4 ml was taken on 3 occasions during the test (at the beginning [T0]; just before changing the first solution [T 24]; at the end of the test [T 96]). As the test substance was found not to be toxic at the limit test concentration of 100 mg/l (maximum) the study was considered as complete and samples were analysed.

Test solutions

Details on test solutions:
DILUTION WATER: Filtered and dechlorinated potable water, which was then softened by a Permo water softening system. Half of the water passed directly into a holding tank attached to the flow through system while the remaining half first passed through a deioniser producing ultra-pure water, which was then fed into the holding tank. The test substance was dissolved in aqueous solution at 100mg/l, agitated mechanically for 24 hours in an attempt to completely dissolve the test substance. This stock solution was then used to prepare the test solutions directly.

Test organisms

Details on test organisms:
TEST ORGANISM
- Common name: Rainbow Trout
- Source: "Labbas", Acquigny, 27400 Louviers, France
- Length at study initiation (length definition, mean, range and SD): The animals were an average of 47.7 mm long, ranging from 40 to 54 mm.
- Feeding during test: Animals were not fed during test.

ACCLIMATION
- Acclimation period: Animals were acclimated for 7 days in a flow-through system in water (same quality used in the test).
- Type and amount of food:not specified
- Feeding frequency: twice daily ceasing 24 hours before the start of the test
- Health during acclimation (any mortality observed): no adverse effects specified

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Conclusions:
ADAMQUAT BZ was non-toxic to Onchorhynchus mykiss at 100 mg/l in a semi-static test system during a 96-hour exposure period. The LC0 was 100 mg/l (the highest test concentration).
