Acutely toxic to aquatic organisms. The inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is not anticipated when introduced in appropriate low concentrations.

This aquatic toxicity assessment was based on the following data:

The EC50 value of the test substance on daphnids was measured to be 5.4 mg/L in a GLP guideline according to OECD 202 (BASF AG 00/0593/50/2, 2003). The water solubility of the test item was determined to be 73 mg/L (BASF AG 93P12820, 1993). Therefore, the test substance is considered to be acutely toxic to aquatic invertebrates.

The toxicity of the test substance to Desmodesmus subspicatus was investigated in a GLP guideline study according to OECD 201. No inhibitory efiects were observed up to a loading rate of 100 mg/L (BASF SE 60E0593/00X027, 2013). Therefore, the test substance is considered to be "with high probability not harmful to aquatic algae".

The EC50 value of the test substance on activated sludge according to OECD 209 was determined to be approx. 790 mg/L (BASF AG 00/0593/08/1, 2003). This result is supported by another guideline study similar to OECD 209 (BASF AG, 26828/88, 1989).
