Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Not readily biodegradable: 39% (CO2 evolution) in 28 days (OECD 301B).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

There are no valid studies available for assessing the biodegradability of Alcohols, lanolin, distn. residues (CAS No. 90622-40-5).In accordance to Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 Annex XI, 1.5 Grouping of substances, the assessment was therefore based on a study conducted with the analogue substance Alcohols, lanolin (CAS No. 8027-33-6).These read across are justified in detail in the analogue justification in IUCLID Section 13.

For Alcohols, lanolin (CAS No. 8027-33-6) the ready biodegradability was determined with a non-adapted activated sludge over a test period of 28 days according to OECD Guideline 301B. Based on CO2 evolution a mean degradation rate of 39% was observed after 28 days. Hence the substance is not readily biodegradable according to OECD criteria.
