Guidance on Safe Use
Administrative data
First-aid measures
First aid personnel should pay attention to their own safety. If the patient is likely to become
unconscious, place and transport in stable sideways position (recovery position). Immediately remove
contaminated clothing.
If inhaled:
Keep patient calm, remove to fresh air, seek medical attention. Immediately inhale corticosteroid dose
aerosol.
On skin contact:
Immediately wash thoroughly with plenty of water, apply sterile dressings, consult a skin specialist.
On contact with eyes:
Immediately wash affected eyes for at least 15 minutes under running water with eyelids held open,
consult an eye specialist.
On ingestion:
Immediately rinse mouth and then drink 200-300 ml of water, seek medical attention.
Indication of any immediate medical attention and special treatment needed
Treatment: Treat according to symptoms (decontamination, vital functions), no known specific
antidote.
Fire-fighting measures
Extinguishing media
Suitable extinguishing media:
alcohol-resistant foam, dry powder, Dry sand
Unsuitable extinguishing media for safety reasons:
water jet
Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture
hydrogen chloride, nitrogen oxides, carbon oxides
The substances/groups of substances mentioned can be released in case of fire. Under certain
conditions in case of fire other hazardous combustion products may be generated.
Advice for fire-fighters
Special protective equipment:
Wear self-contained breathing apparatus and chemical-protective clothing.
Accidental release measures
Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures
Breathing protection required. Avoid contact with the skin, eyes and clothing.
Environmental precautions
Do not empty into drains.
Methods and material for containment and cleaning up
For large amounts: Vacuum up spilled product.
For residues: Vacuum up spilled product. Contain with absorbent material (e.g. sand, silica gel, acid
binder, general purpose binder, sawdust). Dispose of absorbed material in accordance with
regulations.
Handling and storage
Precautions for safe handling
Protect against moisture. Ensure thorough ventilation of stores and work areas.
Protection against fire and explosion:
Prevent electrostatic charge - sources of ignition should be kept well clear - fire extinguishers should
be kept handy.
Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities
Suitable materials for containers: steel
Further information on storage conditions: Keep container tightly closed in a cool, well-ventilated
place. Protect against moisture. Protect against heat. Storage at a proportionate temperature is
required, to avoid 'breathing' of containers.
Storage stability:
Storage temperature: 20 °C
Storage duration: 6 Months
Keep container dry because product takes up the humidity of air.
From the data on storage duration in this safety data sheet no agreed statement regarding the
warrantee of application properties can be deduced.

Exposure controls / personal protection
Personal protective equipment
Respiratory protection:
Self-contained breathing apparatus.
Hand protection:
Chemical resistant protective gloves (EN 374)
Suitable materials also with prolonged, direct contact (Recommended: Protective index 6,
corresponding > 480 minutes of permeation time according to EN 374):
fluoroelastomer (FKM) - 0.7 mm coating thickness
Suitable materials short-term contact and/or splashes (recommended: At least protective index 2,
corresponding > 30 minutes of permeation time according to EN 374)
nitrile rubber (NBR) - 0.4 mm coating thickness
chloroprene rubber (CR) - 0.5 mm coating thickness
butyl rubber (butyl) - 0.7 mm coating thickness
Supplementary note: The specifications are based on tests, literature data and information of glove
manufacturers or are derived from similar substances by analogy. Due to many conditions (e.g.
temperature) it must be considered, that the practical usage of a chemical-protective glove in practice
may be much shorter than the permeation time determined through testing.
Manufacturer's directions for use should be observed because of great diversity of types.
Eye protection:
Tightly fitting safety goggles (cage goggles) (e.g. EN 166) and face shield.
Body protection:
Protective suit
General safety and hygiene measures
Avoid contact with the skin, eyes and clothing. Do not breathe vapour/spray.
Stability and reactivity

Reactions with
water/air:
Reaction with: air
Flammable gases: yes
Which flammable gases: When heated can give off ignitable
vapours., Gaseous hydrocarbons

air; hydrogen chloride formation.
Reaction with: water
Flammable gases: no
Toxic gases: yes
Which toxic gases: hydrogen chloride (HCl)
Corrosive gases: yes

Smoke or fog: yes
Type of smoke or fog: Hydrochloric acid
Peroxides:

Formation of
flammable gases:
Remarks: Forms no flammable gases in the
presence of water.
Chemical stability
The product is stable if stored and handled as prescribed/indicated.
Possibility of hazardous reactions
Evolution of corrosive gases/vapours. Reacts with water and basic components to generate heat. On
contact with water, gaseous decomposition products are formed, which cause build-up of pressure in
tightly closed containers. Reacts with alkalies and metals. Reacts with alcohols, amines, aqueous
acids and alkalies. Reacts with water and moisture, with formation of hydrogen chloride. Partly very
violent reactions with bases and numerous organic classes of substances such as alcohols and
amines. Addition of water leads to increase in temperature. Vapours may form ignitable mixture with
air. Substance/product is highly reactive. In damp air hydrochloric acid formation is possible. Violent
reactions with water and/or alcohols, with formation of hydrochloric acid. Violent and explosive
reaction with water.
The product is stable if stored and handled as prescribed/indicated.
Conditions to avoid
Avoid all sources of ignition: heat, sparks, open flame. Avoid direct sunlight. Avoid electro-static
charge. Avoid humidity. Avoid prolonged storage. Disregard of the conditions mentioned may result in
undesirable decomposition reactions.
Incompatible materials
Substances to avoid:
alkaline reactive substances, alcohols, bases, amines, water
Hazardous decomposition products
Hazardous decomposition products:
hydrogen chloride, carbon monoxide
Disposal considerations
Waste treatment methods
Incinerate in suitable incineration plant, observing local authority regulations.
A waste code in accordance with the European waste catalog (EWC) cannot be specified, due to
dependence on the usage.
The waste code in accordance with the European waste catalog (EWC) must be specified in
cooperation with disposal agency/manufacturer/authorities.
Contaminated packaging:
Contaminated packaging should be emptied as far as possible; then it can be passed on for recycling
after being thoroughly cleaned.
