First-aid measures

Description of first aid measures

General advice:

Move out of dangerous area. Consult a physician. Show this safety data sheet to the doctor in attendance.

If inhaled:

Move to fresh air in case of accidental inhalation of dust or fumes from overheating or combustion. If symptoms persist, call a physician.

In case of skin contact :

Take off contaminated clothing and shoes immediately. Wash off with soap and plenty of water. If symptoms persist, call a physician.

In case of eye contact:

Flush eyes with water as a precaution. Remove contact lenses. Protect unharmed eye. Keep eye wide open while rinsing. If eye irritation persists, consult a specialist.

If swallowed:

Clean mouth with water and drink afterwards plenty of water. Do not give milk or alcoholic beverages. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. Obtain medical attention.

Most important symptoms and effects, both acute and delayed

Symptoms:

irritant effects Indication of any immediate medical attention and special treatment needed

Treatment:

For specialist advice physicians should contact the Poisons Information Service.

Fire-fighting measures

Extinguishing media

Suitable extinguishing media:

Dry powder. Alcohol-resistant foam, Carbon dioxide (CO2), Dry sand

Unsuitable extinguishing media:

High volume water jet

Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture

Specific hazards during firefighting:

Burning produces noxious and toxic fumes.

Advice for firefighters

Special protective equipment for firefighters:

In the event of fire, wear self-contained breathing apparatus. Full protective flameproof clothing

Further information:

Standard procedure for chemical fires.

Use extinguishing measures that are appropriate to local circumstances and the surrounding environment. Cool containers/tanks with water spray.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures

Personal precautions:

Use personal protective equipment. Ensure adequate ventilation.

Environmental precautions

Environmental precautions:

Try to prevent the material from entering drains or water courses.

Methods and material for containment and cleaning up

Methods for cleaning up:

Soak up with inert absorbent material (e.g. sand, silica gel, acid binder, universal binder, sawdust). Keep in suitable, closed containers for disposal.

Handling and storage

Precautions for safe handling

Advice on safe handling:

Avoid contact with skin and eyes. Smoking, eating and drinking should be prohibited in the application area.

Advice on protection against fire and explosion:

Normal measures for preventive fire protection.

Hygiene measures:

Handle in accordance with good industrial hygiene and safety practice. When using do not eat or drink. When using do not smoke. Wash hands before breaks and at the end of workday.

Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities

Requirements for storage areas and containers:

Keep container tightly closed in a dry and well-ventilated place. Isocyanate based products react with water liberating carbon dioxide, which can lead to excessive pressure in closed containers, and form solid insoluble polymers, which can block pipes, valves, etc. Contact with copper or copper alloys and galvanized surfaces must be avoided and valves etc made of these materials must not be used in equipment for storing and handling diisocyanates. Do not store in open containers. Damaged or punctured drums should be emptied.

Other data:

No decomposition if stored and applied as directed.

Specific end use(s)

Specific use(s):

Raw material for industry

Exposure controls / personal protection

Control parameters

Contains no substances with occupational exposure limit values.

Exposure controls

Engineering measures

Effective exhaust ventilation system. Ensure that eyewash stations and safety showers are close to the workstation location.

Personal protective equipment

Eye protection:

Eye wash bottle with pure water. Tightly fitting safety goggles

Hand protection

Material: Nitrile rubber

Glove thickness: 0.4 - 0.6 mm

Break through time: > 480 min

Before removing gloves clean them with soap and water. Gloves should be discarded and replaced if there is any indication of degradation or chemical breakthrough. The selected protective gloves have to satisfy the specifications of EU Directive 89/686/EEC and the standard EN 374 derived from it.

Skin and body protection:

Impervious clothing. Choose body protection according to the amount and concentration of the dangerous substance at the work place.

Respiratory protection:

In the case of vapour formation use a respirator with an approved filter. In case of insufficient ventilation, wear suitable respiratory equipment.

Environmental exposure controls

General advice: Try to prevent the material from entering drains or water courses.

Stability and reactivity

Reactivity

Stable under recommended storage conditions.

Chemical stability

No decomposition if stored and applied as directed.

Possibility of hazardous reactions

Hazardous reactions: Hazardous polymerisation does not occur.

Conditions to avoid

Conditions to avoid: Contamination. Heat, flames and sparks. Exposure to moisture

Incompatible materials

Materials to avoid: Strong oxidizing agents. Strong acids and strong bases. Water

Hazardous decomposition products

Hazardous decomposition products: Carbon oxides. Nitrogen oxides (NOx)

Disposal considerations

Waste treatment methods

Product:

Do not dispose of waste into sewer. Do not contaminate ponds, waterways or ditches with chemical or used container. Dispose of wastes in an approved waste disposal facility. In accordance with local and national regulations.

Contaminated packaging:

Empty remaining contents. Dispose of as unused product.
