The substance is used only as a fertiliser, by spreading on agricultural soils where it has proven to be a suitable source of mineral nitrogen (as ammonium sulphate) for many years. While no detrimental effects have been observed, this UVCB substance contains an appreciable amount of at least 13 organic substances of low potential for adsorption. As screening ready biodegradability tests have not shown a rapid mineralisation of this organic content, a biodegradation in soil was performed according to OECD testing guideline 307. In all soils tested, the two sulfonic components (ADSA and AMSA) disappeared slowly. The concentration decrease of carbonic acid HIBA was clearly faster. A clear correlation between soil parameters and disappearance of the main components was not found.
