The surface tension of an aqueous solution of 1-butyl-5-[(4-chlorophenyl)azo]-1,2-dihydro-
6-hydroxy-4-methyl-2-oxonicotinonitrile was determined as 72.66 ± 0.08 mN/m at 19.9 °C.
One measurement was performed for verification (after 60 minutes). No significant changes and thus no significant dependence on time were observed.

Conclusions:
The surface tension of an aqueous solution of 1-butyl-5-[(4-chlorophenyl)azo]-1,2-dihydro-
6-hydroxy-4-methyl-2-oxonicotinonitrile was determined as 72.66 ± 0.08 mN/m at 19.9 °C.
One measurement was performed for verification (after 60 minutes). No significant changes and thus no significant dependence on time were observed.
As these values were higher than 60 mN/m, 1-butyl-5-[(4-chlorophenyl)azo]-1,2-dihydro-6-
hydroxy-4-methyl-2-oxonicotinonitrile was classified as not surface active.
The surface tension of the negative control lay within the accepted range.

Description of key information

The surface tension of an aqueous solution of 1-butyl-5-[(4-chlorophenyl)azo]-1,2-dihydro-6-hydroxy-4-methyl-2-oxonicotinonitrile was determined as 72.66 ± 0.08 mN/m at 19.9 °C.
One measurement was performed for verification (after 60 minutes). No significant changes and thus no significant dependence on time were observed.
As these values were higher than 60 mN/m, 1-butyl-5-[(4-chlorophenyl)azo]-1,2-dihydro-6-hydroxy-4-methyl-2-oxonicotinonitrile was classified as not surface active.
The surface tension of the negative control lay within the accepted range.
The concentration of the test item in the 90% saturated test solution was determined as 0.49 mg test item/L (based on analysis of dissolved organic carbon in the test solution).
The saturated solution was obtained from an aqueous solution prepared by shaking 1.00 g/L in water HPLC grade shaking for 24 hours at 19.2 – 20.5 °C in a closed flask at 150 rpm.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Surface tension:
72.66
